The Idaho Senate Education Committee voted to print RS31894, a cleanup bill that, according to sponsor Sen. Cindy Carlson, would remove a sentence from legislation adopted last year governing public comments at school board meetings.
Carlson told the committee the change is intended to clarify the earlier bill so the public can comment during public comment periods and also place items on the agenda where appropriate, while preventing individuals from taking over meetings. Senator Ward Engelking said he was concerned that removing the sentence might return meetings to a "free for all," and several senators said they would like further discussion. Carlson and other senators agreed to print the proposal so it could be scheduled for additional consideration.
Senator Woodward moved to print RS31894; the motion was seconded and the committee approved the printing by voice vote with no opposition recorded. Printing an RS (request for study/print) makes the draft available for formal consideration at a future committee meeting.
