Commissioner Savas outlines ongoing talks with TriMet, PTSPs about expanding transit access in Clackamas County

Savas said the talks have been underway for about a year at staff level and that Special Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) rules, established under HB 2017, shape how funds can be used. "We have these challenges ... and I came in with an open mind," Savas said, adding that he will consult county counsel on a legal question that emerged during recent meetings. He said the county itself operates shuttles in the Clackamas industrial area and noted partnerships such as the Mount Hood Express.
Clarifying details discussed on the record included the metrics used to define access (quarter-mile and half-mile measures to stops), and the practical constraint of topography on walking distances. Savas described the conversations as ongoing and technical, not a board vote or directive: "I still have an open mind on trying to figure out a way," he said.
