The bail‑bond measure, Senate Bill 16, passed on a recorded vote, 51‑2. The bill makes a limited change to chapter 11 of title 45 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated to allow people who have any involvement with a bail bonds business to be elected to a county commission, city council or the governing body of a consolidated government, provided the elected official does not issue bail bonds in the county or municipality where they serve. The sponsor said the change was prompted by a local situation in Heard County that left a newly elected official unable to be sworn in under current law and forced a special election.
