The San Rafael Teachers Association (SRTA) and the district both filed sunshine notices to open collective-bargaining negotiations for the 2026–27 school year. The board approved the SRTA’s and the district’s sunshine articles, allowing formal bargaining to begin.
SRTA representatives told the board their membership prioritized Article 3 (work year and hours) and Article 4 (assignments and transfer procedures); Article 2 (compensation) is an automatic annual reopener, they said. SRTA also noted Articles 9 (System of Professional Growth) and Article 17 (Peer Assistance and Review, PAR) are open by mutual agreement and will be part of discussions where applicable.
District staff presented the district’s sunshine proposals, which include opening Article 2 (compensation) and Article 4 (assignments and transfer procedures), together with mutual articles 9 and 17. Trustees moved and seconded motions to approve the sunshine notices; the motions were approved by voice vote. The approvals permit formal negotiations between SRTA and district negotiators in the coming months.
