Town hall renovation moves ahead; asbestos abatement and flooring work complete, move planned for November

Town administrators updated the Select Board on the town‑hall renovation and planned move during the Oct. 20 meeting, reporting that asbestos abatement in five rooms is complete and that flooring and related finish work are underway.
Staff said the contractor completed abatement for five rooms last week and expected the remaining two library‑adjacent rooms to be finished the same week. Flooring work began immediately after abatement. The library is funding work on two classroom spaces inside the library module and those rooms are being finished concurrently. Town staff said some temporary wall work will be used in the central hallway to manage separation during occupancy transitions.
Valley Communications will install electronic door controls under a statewide contract and the town expects no material supplier delays for the doors. Pioneer Movers is contracted and a staff meeting with the mover is scheduled to coordinate a color‑coded moving plan; the town is targeting the week of Nov. 10 for the move. Staff warned there may be one week when town services will operate remotely (phone and email response only) while the move is underway and urged staff to prepare signage and public notices.
Staff also noted ongoing hiring for custodial support, coordination of temporary cleaning coverage, and plans for disposing of unwanted furniture on town property near the school ahead of the move.
Select Board members said they will prepare a town‑meeting handout and signage to alert residents about the temporary closures and the new office layout.
