Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Terry Ford told the Town of Hampden Select Board on Oct. 20 that the committee will ask voters this fall for at least $20,000 to buy a used pickup truck after the department’s current vehicle was judged by a mechanic to be beyond reasonable repair.
Ford said the committee received a written quote from a local mechanic, Corby, who inspected the town-donated 2000 Ford F-250 and found multiple failures — coolant and transmission leaks, a bad transfer case, linkage problems, a damaged bed and other issues — and concluded the truck “is not worth repairing.” The mechanic’s written estimate for repairs was in the mid‑thousands; Ford said the committee prefers to buy a used truck rather than fix the existing vehicle.
