Board selects Delta Dental for three-year insured dental plan; authorizes negotiations and contract execution

The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees approved a multi-part motion Oct. 21 to award the district's fully insured dental plan to Delta Dental and to authorize administrative steps to finalize the contract.
Deputy superintendent Gloria Garcia and Karina Perez, risk management coordinator, told trustees that Delta Dental ranked highest in the district's evaluation matrix and proposed a three-year rate guarantee. Perez said employee premiums for some plans will increase modestly (between about $1 and $3.50 per month for affected tiers), but employees in the employee-only low plan will continue to be covered by the district-funded $18 monthly allocation with no out-of-pocket charge.
Trustees approved a four-part set of motions: award the RFP to Delta Dental for a three-year term effective Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2029; authorize administration to interview experienced agents; authorize administration to negotiate a draft contract; and authorize the superintendent to execute the contract and any necessary amendments once negotiations are complete. The motions were made and passed by recorded voice vote; each motion was recorded as passing unanimously.
Why this matters: Health-benefit changes affect employees' out-of-pocket costs and the district's benefits administration. The three-year rate guarantee provides pricing stability, and the board gave administration authority to complete procurement and contract steps.
