Baldwin framed the requests as safety and wayfinding measures for motorists and heavy vehicles. "QuickTrip is more than a gas station," he said, adding that signage helps drivers identify the site safely from the highway and keeps trucks from circling the property in search of the scale entrance. The company presented renderings showing access points to I‑10 and FM‑1489, fueling canopies, a truck canopy and a site layout that separates car and truck circulation.
City permitting staff told the council they would work with Kwik Trip on outstanding engineering updates before issuing permit letters. Dr. Bautista said staff had discussed items with the company and would provide the adjustments needed to proceed with the permit application. Baldwin told the council the project timeline targets a grand opening in 2026.
Council moved to grant the requested sign variance(s) at the meeting; the motion passed. Staff said additional permit documentation and engineering updates remain to complete the permit application.
