Madam Chair Horman and the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee on Feb. 12 ordered a technical correction to the program maintenance bill for public schools to specify the per‑support‑unit health insurance distribution as $21,902.
Jared Tatro, deputy division manager for Legislative Services’ Budget and Policy Analysis Division, told the committee the department of education distributes the relevant health insurance appropriation on a per‑support‑unit basis rather than per full‑time position. Tatro said the correct calculated amount is $21,901.50, which rounds up to $21,902 and must appear in the bill so the Department of Education knows the distribution amount.
Tatro made the correction available for the record and answered committee questions before a committee member requested unanimous consent to include that figure in the bill. The chair asked for objections; none were raised and the request was ordered.
The change was presented as a technical correction only and the committee did not take additional action on program policy or funding levels during the exchange.
The committee moved on to the scheduled agency budget reviews after approving the correction.
