Old North Dayton neighborhood urges Dayton schools to keep Challenger Learning Center in community

Representatives of the Old North Dayton neighborhood and nearby associations urged Dayton Public Schools to keep the Challenger Learning Center at its present location next to Keiser School or, if relocation is required, to move it elsewhere within the Old North Dayton neighborhood.
A neighborhood representative said the Challenger Center has been at the Keiser site for roughly 35 years and is a popular community resource with staff and program participants who know the neighborhood. "It's a win win to have it stay in the neighborhood," the speaker told the board and said the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association passed a resolution urging the district to keep the center in place or to find an alternate nearby site and that association members are willing to help with locating a site.
Jerry Bolin III, who said he represents the McCookfield Neighborhood Association, also supported keeping the center near Keiser School and suggested a former recreation-center parcel on Baltimore Street with an indoor gym that could support a drone program. Board members said they would follow up; Vice President Dr. Bailey offered to meet with neighborhood representatives and bring a district team to discuss options.
District staff said they have visited potential properties in prior years and are evaluating options as part of broader facilities and enrollment planning. No formal board action on the Challenger Center was taken during the meeting.
