At its Oct. 7 special meeting the Fulshear City Council read proclamations recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month, the Hindu observance Raksha Bandhan (called Universal Oneness Day in the proclamation) and the Sewa Diwali community food-drive initiative.
Mayor Don McCoy read the proclamations and invited representatives to come forward for photos. Speakers during public comment described Sewa Diwali as a volunteer-driven food collection effort; one student speaker, Tanisha Rathode, said national Hindu American volunteers donated more than 710,000 pounds of food in recent cycles and that local volunteers had collected roughly 4,000 pounds in 2024. Council members praised the volunteer efforts and linked them to local food-insecurity needs, noting the Houston Food Bank serves nearly 1,000,000 people in the region.
The proclamations were ceremonial and no formal council actions followed at the meeting.
