The Warwick City Council voted to approve a grant of easement to allow the utility to install overhead and underground electric distribution infrastructure to serve the new Pilgrim High School.
Steve Gothberg, director of capital and construction improvements for public schools, explained the easement was required by the utility to locate a transformer and a pole on school property as part of the new high school project. Gothberg said the utility’s exhibit and the easement form had been provided to the committee and that the work will ultimately feed power to the new building.
Councilmembers discussed the utility’s legal name in the title of the resolution. The packet and exhibit named the Narragansett Electric Company; other references in the package used National Grid or Rhode Island Energy as doing‑business names. Council members agreed as a housekeeping measure to amend the resolution title to use the Narragansett Electric Company—the entity’s legal name on file with the Rhode Island Secretary of State—and then approved the easement. The committee recommended favorable action and the full council adopted the amended resolution.
