Meeker County approves 2026–2027 MFIP biennial service agreement to continue workforce supports

The Meeker County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 7 to approve the 2026–2027 Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) biennial service agreement and authorized Meeker County Health and Human Services to submit the agreement to the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families.
Tina Schenk, Meeker County Health and Human Services director, told the board MFIP services are designed to help families with young children move into and remain in the workforce. "Our services are designed to help people move off of this program," Schenk said, describing work services and limited emergency funding for housing and childcare that are provided when appropriate.
Schenk said the state requires a 30-day public review and comment period; county staff opened that period and reported no public comments were received before the deadline. The approved agreement will be posted on the county website and submitted to state authorities.
Commissioner Samkee moved to adopt the MFIP biennial service agreement; Commissioner Van Ort seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
The agreement formalizes the county’s coordination with Minnesota Jobs and Training and the Department of Children, Youth and Families for delivering work-services, paternity and parenting supports, and case management that help families secure employment and childcare. Schenk said the goal is that families “can move forward with getting a job and childcare and all the things that they need to enter and stay in the workforce.”
