Guadalupe Recreation & Parks officials announced a series of community events this fall, including a Halloween trunk-or-treat and block party on Oct. 31, a free outdoor movie night on Oct. 17, a community hike at Guadalupe Beach this Saturday at 11 a.m., and Día de los Muertos observances beginning Oct. 15 at City Hall and a community event Nov. 1 at Guadalupe Cemetery.
Organizers said the Halloween event at City Hall will run 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and include a trunk-or-treat organized by a local car club, a 50-foot inflatable slide, a projected movie, resource booths inside the auditorium, carnival-style games, a photo booth, a cake walk and a costume contest with three age categories (12 and under, 12–18, and 18 and over). Each category winner will receive a $50 cash prize. Food trucks and a snack bar will be on site; organizers said most concessions will be priced under $5. The city will close part of Tenth Street for the event and said the program can move indoors if weather forces cancellation of outdoor elements.
Movie night organizers said the Oct. 17 screening will include a full snack bar and family-friendly pricing; the film scheduled is The Nightmare Before Christmas. A separate community hike, led in part by a council member and by Ray Segovia, will meet at Guadalupe Beach parking lot at 11 a.m. this Saturday and is open to all ages and skill levels.
Parks staff announced a City Hall lobby Día de los Muertos altar display beginning Oct. 15; community members may drop off photos and small items on a schedule and items will be displayed in a locked glass case through Nov. 2. A community Día de los Muertos event at Guadalupe Cemetery will run Nov. 1 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flowers, sweets vendors, live music (first hour), and an open mic during the second hour for community members to share stories.
Staff also noted some recurring community services: a mobile veterinary clinic is being held weekly on Wednesdays at Leborg Park and requires online sign-up; the clinic offers discounted services and limited financial assistance for qualifying pet owners. The Parks and Recreation office phone number announced at the meeting was (805) 356-3906 for scheduling or further information.
Organizers encouraged residents to attend and to contact the Parks and Recreation office with questions or to reserve display times for the City Hall altar.
The announcements were made during the commission’s public meeting; speakers asked residents to check event times and arrival locations and confirmed the city will provide alternatives if outdoor weather affects programming.
