Council approves emergency purchase of backup generator for Valley View sewer lift station

The Cody City Council authorized an emergency purchase to replace a failing backup generator at the Valley View sewer lift station and approved renting a temporary unit until the replacement is installed.
City staff member Philip Bowman said the lift station generator is more than 30 years old and recently was found to be unable to be serviced. Bowman said wastewater and vehicle-maintenance crews investigated and solicited quotes; staff recommended Interstate Power Systems, a vendor the city has used before. “Their quote for the generator was $27,600 with estimated delivery time of 4 to 6 weeks,” Bowman said.
Bowman said staff also located a rental generator to keep the station powered until delivery and installation of the new unit. He said the combined expense may require a later FY26 budget amendment and requested authorization to proceed with the purchase and the rental with a not-to-exceed amount of $35,000.
Council Member Tamela moved to approve the emergency purchase and rental authorization; Council Member Shreve seconded. The council voted “Aye”; the mayor announced the motion carried.
No alternatives to the purchase were recorded on the record; staff said the station requires reliable backup power and the vendor recommended is already used on other city generators.
