Brent, a utilities department representative, told the board the project has been under development for several years. A Golden Leaf grant awarded in 2023 supported design and permitting, and the EDA award provides the remaining funding needed to move the project toward construction. “We request the board of commissioners accept a grant notice of award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration in the amount of $6,751,000 for the Mid Atlantic Industrial Rail Park water tank project and authorize the county manager to sign and submit all required grant documents,” Brent said.
Commissioners called the award a major win for economic development. The project is expected to support industrial development at the rail park by improving water storage and system capacity for future customers.
