Mountain Artists group highlights Mountain Arts Festival, student programs and new mini‑grant

Nancy Stannard, president of Mountain Artists of Teller County, briefed the Woodland Park City Council on Oct. 2 about the group’s activities and community programs, including the Mountain Arts Festival and a new mini‑grant program.
Stannard said Mountain Artists began in 1989 and now has more than 70 members. She said the group’s signature event, the Mountain Arts Festival held on the second weekend in August, generated more than $8,000 in sales tax revenue to local and state government this year and hosted over 90 artists in Memorial Park. "The last three years have been that much or more," she told council.
Stannard described related programs: an annual juried student art show (middle and high school), a scholarship awarded to a graduating student pursuing post‑secondary art education, and support for Parks & Rec through donated art supplies for summer camp programs. She announced a new Mountain Artists mini‑grant for Woodland Park residents that will reimburse up to $250 per year toward tuition for arts classes or workshops, and said donated original artworks will be included in a library silent auction.
Council members thanked Stannard and noted the group's past scholarship awards to local students. The presentation was informational; no council action was required.
