Oklahoma Hunters and Anglers donate $5,000 toward Arcadia archery complex; environmental review underway

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation accepted a $5,000 donation from Oklahoma Hunters and Anglers to support design and construction of a new archery complex at the Arcadia Conservation Education Area.
Agency staff said the archery complex is in the environmental assessment phase and that securing an engineer has taken longer than expected. "We're in the middle of our environmental assessment. We should be done with that hopefully here in the next few months," Micah Holmes, chief of communication and education, said during the presentation. Damon Springer, senior communication and education specialist, said the facility is expected to be "a state-of-the-art facility right here in the metro." Rick Nolan, president of Oklahoma Hunters and Anglers, presented the donation and described his group's fundraising: "That, coupled with a 9 to 1 match for the archery project, that put $50,000 worth of boots on the ground," he said.
Commissioners moved and seconded the motion to accept the donation and approved it by roll call (recorded "Aye" from the commissioners on the roll call). Staff said donated funds will be used for the archery program and construction costs and that the commission's acceptance allows staff to incorporate the donation into the project's financing plan.
The presentation also included a brief history of the organization's outreach and fundraising events that underwrite donations to the department. Staff described continuing outreach and education work at Arcadia and said the archery complex is expected to serve a broad public audience once completed.
The commission recorded a formal vote to accept the $5,000 donation and instructed staff to coordinate the gift with ongoing project planning and the engineering procurement.
The commission packet contains the donation letter and project overview; staff expects the environmental assessment to conclude in the coming months and will return with updated schedules and cost estimates.
