Vandenberg County building commission approves multiple apprentice applications, rejects one journeyman and tables master requests

The Vandenberg County Building Commission on Nov. 6 approved apprentice applications for Aaron Allen (Allied Electric), Caleb Bell (Hedge Electric/IEC apprenticeship), Wynn T. Bauer (JETC), Alex Crow (JETC), Luca Deal (IEC), Mica Ellington (JATC), Jonathan Hall (IEC), Aaron Schafer (IEC) and Tyler Schmidt (IEC). Motions to accept each candidate were made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The commission also considered a journeyman application from Dan Spurgeon of Solar Energy Solutions of Shepherdsville, Kentucky. A board member noted, “I do not see any record of him working anytime under someone with a master's license, and I do not see that he has graduated or has any degrees or apprenticeship program listed either.” A motion to reject Spurgeon’s journeyman application was made, seconded and approved; the commission recorded the application as rejected.
Two master-license applications drew closer scrutiny for missing documentation. The commission reviewed Perry Johnson (Reliant Electric) and Christopher M. Widzip (NKC Concepts). Board members said neither application included clear evidence of having worked under a licensed master electrician or of completed, verifiable training records. A motion was made and seconded to table the master applications pending proof—such as a letter from an apprenticeship training director, a completion certificate from an apprenticeship program, or notarized hour logs—showing the applicant served under a master and met supervised-hour requirements. The motion to table carried.
The commission discussed common evidence it expects for master applications: completion or graduation letters from apprenticeship programs, apprenticeship completion certificates (for fifth-year graduates), and notarized hour logs showing work under a master electrician. Board members noted that some applicants have fifth-year apprenticeships but lack a formal certificate or a letter from their training director. The commission agreed applicants may provide verification from prior training directors or notarized documentation to satisfy the requirement.
Separately, the commission approved a continuing-education course submitted by the IEC covering various voltage distribution systems, scheduled 5:30–8:30 p.m., for three continuing education credits.
Meeting materials and the transcript show the approvals were done by voice vote with each motion seconded; no individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
