Capitol to premiere Battle Flag documentary Dec. 6; 68-foot Christmas tree arrives Nov. 1

Robbie, a staff member for the Michigan State Capitol Commission, said the Battle Flag documentary the film team produced will premiere Saturday, Dec. 6, with two showings that day and additional public screenings to follow.
Robbie credited Matt Van Acker and the film team for documenting the conservation work on the battle flags and said conservation staff are performing on-site conservation. He said the premiere will be open to commission members and will later be open to the general public as capacity allows.
Robbie also announced that the state-selected Christmas tree for 2025 is a 68-foot spruce from Sault Ste. Marie. The tree will be harvested Thursday, Oct. 30, transported to Lansing and is expected to arrive at the Capitol on Saturday, Nov. 1. Staff said the tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 21 and will coincide with the city's Silver Bells celebration.
On tours, Robbie said the Capitol welcomed 100 people during a recent Saturday of tours, with every tour slot filled; he recommended maintaining one Saturday-a-month tour schedule for now.
At the meeting’s close, Commissioner Bauer moved to adjourn and Dan supported the motion; the commission adjourned with no recorded objections.
No formal votes on other business were taken at this meeting.
