Cumberland County 9-1-1 center receives reaccreditation; board issues commendation

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners presented a recognition Oct. 6 to the county 9‑1‑1 center for reaccreditation, commending staff for maintaining high standards in training, quality assurance and operations.
Emergency Services Director Gary Crumple introduced the center's accreditation update and invited Christine Smith, who oversees training and quality assurance, to explain the process. Smith said the accreditation requires meeting about 20 performance points, months of documentation and that centers are allowed only about 7% of calls below a compliant level to remain accredited.
Smith said the county's center ranked 19th in the world at one time and that only 13 centers currently maintain that specific accreditation level; she described the reaccreditation process as data intensive and difficult to sustain. Commissioners thanked dispatch staff and said the reaccreditation is an important measure of service quality.
No formal board action was required; the recognition was presented as a ceremonial item on the agenda.
