The most time-sensitive item: Theresa Fisher, director of the Shawnee County Health Department, said the department will host a free drive-through flu clinic on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the east-side parking lot of Hammer Sports Park. The clinic is for people 19 and older and for those without insurance, Fisher said.
Training and graduations: A representative identified as Bridal Cole from the Department of Corrections invited commissioners to an academy graduation the following day. "We have 14 graduates that have gone through four weeks of intensive programming...report writing, legal issues, CIT, mental health," the speaker said.
Employee benefits and other events: Barbara Lewis, benefits assistant in human resources, announced open enrollment for 2026 will run Oct. 13–24, with multiple information meetings across county sites and flu/COVID shots available at sessions. Lewis provided a multi-site meeting schedule: Oct. 13 at Lake Shawnee (1–3 p.m.); Oct. 14 at the Adult Detention Center (10–11 a.m. and 1–2 p.m.); Oct. 15 at the courthouse subbasement (9–10 a.m.); Oct. 17 at the North Annex (6:30–9:30 a.m.); and Oct. 18 sessions at the Health Department (9–10:30 a.m.) and the Sheriff’s Office break room (1–3 p.m.).
Other notices: Brian Hill invited commissioners to a sheriff’s office awards and promotion ceremony at 1:30 p.m. the same day. Commissioner Kevin Cook asked county employees to wear pink on Monday, Oct. 6, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Week; Cook said the county will emphasize wearing pink on that day and during the week for those inclined.
