Commissioners adopt $200,000 amendment to Lincoln Heights CDBG project after public hearing

After a public hearing, the Halifax County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 6 approved an amendment to the county’s CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) project ordinance for the Lincoln Heights neighborhood.
Mike Scott of county staff explained the Department of Commerce offered conditional awards for active projects that demonstrated additional needs; the county requested and received a verbal conditional approval for roughly $200,000 more for the Lincoln Heights effort — about $100,000 targeted to neighborhood facility work (including the Lynn Pike Community Center) and about $100,000 for housing rehabilitation and demolition related to two units in Lincoln Heights.
No members of the public spoke at the hearing. Following the presentation, commissioners voted to amend the grant project ordinance to appropriate the additional funding so staff can submit the required documentation to the state and continue work on property rehabilitation and facility improvements.
