Staff to send mobile food-sales zoning changes to planning commission after council questions on limits and parking

City staff presented a draft amendment Oct. 6 to allow regular mobile food sales at specified entertainment and food–service venues, and the Business & Development committee asked staff to refine the language on caps and site planning before taking the measure to the planning commission.
The proposed change would allow mobile food vendors at family entertainment centers, sports-club facilities, microbreweries and microdistilleries. Staff said the amendment would permit up to two mobile-food vendors at a time in a designated area (not simply a parked vehicle in a parking space) and would require the host business to provide a site plan showing the vendor location so the city can ensure ingress/egress and parking safety.
Several council members expressed concern about an absolute two-vendor cap. One council member said food trucks typically show up only when demand warrants them and that an arbitrary limit could cause unintended consequences; another suggested a formulaic approach tying allowable trucks to available space or parking capacity. Staff said the site-plan requirement is intended to address congestion and safety and agreed to take the committee’s feedback to the planning commission for additional review.
No final vote was taken; staff will prepare revised language and queue the amendment for the planning commission later in October.
