The Mauldin Parks & Recreation committee voted Oct. 6 to recommend that the full council approve commissioning artist Aldo Mizzarelli to build and install his sculpture "The Muses" on the Mauldin Art Trail.
Staff described the selection process: three proposals were received under the annual RFP; the theme this year was "inspiring transformation." The recommended piece, by Aldo Mizzarelli, is a stacked-cube sculpture crowned by a mushroom motif. Staff described the work as approximately 7 feet, 10 inches tall, 3.5 feet wide and weighing about 330 pounds; materials cited included welded steel and painted resin and the installation would use removable concrete anchors.
A motion to forward the artist commission to full council carried without opposition.
