Committee forwards ordinance to codify no-through truck routes, adds several Ashmore Bridge Road cut-throughs
Summary
Mauldin lawmakers updated code to list existing no-through-truck routes by ordinance — including Hamby Drive — and to add a set of roads off Ashmore Bridge Road; the committee directed staff to add Knollwood Drive if needed and forwarded the ordinance to full council.

The Mauldin Public Safety committee on Oct. 6 voted to forward to full council an ordinance amendment that clarifies and expands the city’s list of no-through-truck routes.
Staff said the existing code referenced a truck restriction on Hamby Drive (SC Road S-325 between Miller Road and Forrester Drive) but pointed to a map that is not in the code, which created enforcement and citation uncertainty for officers in the field. The proposed amendment lists the no-through-truck routes explicitly and would add additional roads — Owens Lane to Ashmore Bridge Road by way of Maple Drive, Crestwood Drive and Woodland Drive — where staff have received recent complaints about truck cut-through traffic.
The presentation noted that council can adopt additional roads by resolution but that placing the list directly in the ordinance is clearer for officers and improves enforceability. Committee members asked staff to review other signed but unlisted roads; staff agreed to add Knollwood Drive to the list following committee discussion.
A motion to forward the amended Chapter 38 (truck routes) ordinance to full council carried unanimously.
