The specialist said, "1 in 3 women are impacted in their lifetime by domestic violence," and urged residents to refer victims to local services and to attend a remembrance and survivor event scheduled Oct. 16 at Mayday Park in Daphne.
Commissioners and county officials reiterated that domestic violence prevention requires coordinated community response and thanked Lighthouse staff for providing shelter and advocacy. The proclamation text cited national statistics about prevalence and economic costs and formally set October 2025 aside for awareness activities in Baldwin County.
A motion to adopt the proclamation passed by voice vote; commissioners praised the Lighthouse's presence in county courts and outreach to schools but did not record any new funding at the meeting.
Speakers also noted the emotional toll on first responders and recommended continuing support for organizations that serve victims. The commission encouraged residents to call The Lighthouse or invite its staff to community events.
The proclamation passed by unanimous voice vote.
