Capital projects director Terry Hunter updated the board on construction of the new consolidated school campus, describing recent interior work, technology infrastructure installation and an anticipated phased move‑in schedule.
Hunter walked the board through recent photos of classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms and specialty spaces and said the contractor is completing plumbing trim, tile and flooring work. He said access points and technology wiring are being installed and that custodial contractor ABM will require a larger scope of service when the new building is occupied.
Hunter outlined a furniture and move schedule that calls for shipment of furniture beginning Oct. 21, with offloading and installation to begin about Oct. 23 and phased installation by building sections over subsequent weeks. He said the district expects to allow staff to begin limited access and walkthroughs starting Nov. 1 and that the district is “hopeful by Thanksgiving” that additional staff can be working in the space. Hunter said some final technology and HVAC work — including Wi‑Fi provisioning necessary for controls and system testing — will occur during the short winter break to minimize classroom disruption.
Hunter provided comparative figures for the project’s size and cost, saying the new consolidated campus totals roughly 208,000 square feet compared with roughly 204,000 square feet for the old buildings — an increase of about 4,000 square feet. He said rebuilding the older schools in their previous footprints would exceed $68,000,000; he described the consolidated design as more efficient than rebuilding multiple older campuses.
Board members asked about move‑in logistics, custodial contract adjustments and demolition of the old buildings after occupancy; Hunter said demolition will follow completion of the new campus and that demolition financing would require a bond and coordination with the county commission. He said the district is coordinating phased access for teachers to allow room setup before winter break and that technology staff will schedule system migrations during the break window.
No board vote was required for the capital projects update.
