Centerville warns residents of temporary recycling disruption as contractor seeks markets

Town Manager Carolyn Brinkley described the issue as evolving and asked residents to be mindful of what they place in the recycling bin, noting that contamination forces whole loads to be sent to landfill. She said the contractor has had difficulty finding a reliable facility to accept the town’s recycling and that the town will put recycling service out for bid to explore options.
Brinkley said residents who prioritize recycling might consider taking recyclables directly to the collection bins behind the health department while the town resolves the issue. She acknowledged the inconvenience and noted the town will continue to pursue a reliable solution; the town manager provided her direct cell phone number for residents who want to discuss the matter.
Council members and staff asked for patience while bids are solicited and possible interim arrangements are explored. No formal action or expenditure was taken at the Oct. 2 meeting; the town manager said staff will pursue procurement options and report back to the council.
