Santa Rosa County held a Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA) hearing related to Sacred Heart Ascension on Oct. 23 and approved a resolution the board said was required by federal tax rules.
The county attorney explained the hearing is a TEFRA requirement for a facility project being built by Sacred Heart Ascension and that the action creates no encumbrance or financial obligation for the county. “It's no encumbrance on the county or financial obligation. It's just to fulfill the tax code,” the county attorney said.
No members of the public had signed up to speak for the hearing. After the county attorney’s explanation, the board asked whether there was further discussion; with none, the chair moved to carry the item forward without objection and the resolution was approved.
Staff said the hearing satisfied the tax-code procedural step for the project and that any additional questions from the public could be addressed through the county attorney’s office.
