Okeechobee County VAB adopts new filing rules, sets petition fee at $50

The Okeechobee County Value Adjustment Board voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 2025-01, updating the board's uniform rules and procedures and setting the VAB petition filing fee at $50.
Thomas Hudek, the value adjustment board clerk, presented the resolution and described changes from the prior year. Hudek said the Department of Revenue increased the maximum amount VABs are allowed to charge per petition. Historically the local cap had been $15 for decades, Hudek said, and the legislature raised the statewide maximum to $50.
Board members discussed whether to adopt the full resolution now and defer any decision on the fee until the December meeting. After comments about increased processing costs and how other counties had responded — Hudek said many counties chose the $50 maximum — the board agreed to insert $50 in the fee line and adopt the resolution at the meeting. Vice Chairman Bradley Goodbread said, "I think we should just go with the 50." A motion to adopt Resolution 2025-01 with the $50 fee passed unanimously; the clerk recorded the adoption.
The clerk also made several documents available on the Okeechobee Clerk of Court website, including petition forms, the uniform policies and procedures manual, and referenced rule and statute guidance the board will use during hearings.
