Union County Board of Elections earns national honorable mention; two staff certify as CIRA

The Union County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 20 recognized the Union County Board of Elections for receiving an honorable mention in the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s 2024 Clearing House Awards for an “I Voted” sticker campaign.
Chris Duggan, chair of the Union County Board of Elections, told the commissioners the award recognized the county’s sticker campaign for innovation in voter outreach. He said 53 jurisdictions nationwide received honorable mentions and 44 jurisdictions received awards in the EAC program.
Separately, county elections staff Sharon Jordan and Candace Lopez were recognized for earning the Certified Elections Registration Administrator (CIRA) designation, the presentation said. The CIRA credential — granted through the Elections Center professional education program and achieved through a multi-year course of study — reflects completion of training in elections administration and voter registration practices.
County officials briefly posed for a photograph with election staff at the dais following the recognition. No formal vote to award funds or policy changes accompanied the recognition; the item was presented for the board’s acknowledgement.
