The Waukesha Board of Public Works approved a contract amendment to add the Passport MobilePay option for parking permits and short-term parking in the city’s parking ramps.
Staff described MobilePay as an add-on that will let drivers buy permits of three days or less without creating a username and password. The package includes a one-time implementation fee of $750 and a 45¢ per-transaction convenience fee passed to the parker; standard credit-card processing fees also apply.
Brandon (staff member) said the change should streamline purchasing: “This would be available for purchasing of permits for 3 days or less, and would not require purchasers of permits to enter in a username and password.” He added that the new signage and QR codes under development will guide users on zone numbers and where to scan to pay.
Board members discussed whether the city should begin passing credit-card processing fees to users citywide. A board member said many third-party systems now allow passing along those costs and suggested the finance director consider a citywide policy.
The board voted to approve the contract amendment and authorized staff to proceed with implementation and signage rollout in both ramps.
