Board approves payments including $25,000 cemetery HVAC work; members note federal grant could offset cost

The Waukesha Board of Public Works approved a batch of 10 payments that included a final payment related to HVAC replacement work at the cemetery administration building.
Board members heard that two furnaces accounted for a $25,000 line item. Staff said the furnaces were installed in an attic space and that crews also replaced ductwork, increasing installation complexity and cost. Staff added the city expects to receive federal funding through the EECBG program that could offset a portion of the expense.
Brandon (staff member) said, “the installation of them is much, much more difficult than your standard residential ... installation. So the complexity of the cemetery building and where they had to install it really was the driver of the cost for the furnace replacements.”
Board member Kevin Reilly asked staff to report back if the federal grant funds arrive. Reilly said, “So if you could maybe report back to the board or at least me if that comes through so I can feel a little bit better about this.” Brandon confirmed the city is pursuing the EECBG funds.
The board voted to approve the payments. The motion carried with the majority voting in favor.
The payment approval covered several routine and final contract payments; meeting minutes for the payments list the cemetery HVAC item as the single larger, discussed line item. The board did not change the payment list before approving it.
The board moved on after the vote to the next agenda item.
