Adrian with the Economic Development Corporation told council the city had contractually committed about $2 billion in investment over the past year and said the EDC is pursuing food-and-beverage and computer/component manufacturers; he addressed data-center water and power concerns.
Adrian, representing the local Economic Development Corporation, told the city council the EDC saw strong activity in site selection and investment this year and presented early targets for the coming fiscal year.
"This past year, we contractually committed about $2,000,000,000 of investment," Adrian said, reporting the figure to the board. He told council the EDC has line-of-sight to roughly $800 million to $1 billion in potential investment currently under active negotiation.
Adrian highlighted recent foreign direct investment interest, including a Korean alloy manufacturing facility under construction in the city's industrial park that the EDC expects to open around May–June (no year specified). He said the EDC's target-industry analysis is steering staff toward food-and-beverage manufacturing and computer/components manufacturing as priority sectors because of local assets and broader industry demand.
Council members asked about data-center impacts. Adrian said technology in hyperscale data centers has evolved, reducing some of the earlier water demand: "These data centers are getting more dense," he said, describing improvements in server density and cooling technology that lower water consumption per unit of compute.
Adrian and councilors discussed electric-grid capacity and regional competition for power. He said the city and region share a common electric grid, so using available capacity locally can capture jobs and tax revenue rather than losing opportunities to neighboring communities.
Adrian noted that recent outreach trips to Asian markets produced site visits within two weeks from interested companies and cited discussions with Taiwanese and Korean firms. He said the EDC expects continued recruitment activity into the next fiscal year and will present a more detailed annual report to the council in December or January.
