The Mooresville Police Department described its current recruitment and hiring process during the Police Commission meeting on Oct. 23, 2025.
Chief of Police said the department has 18 applicants in the hiring pool and that 13 candidates were scheduled to take the physical-agility test on the coming Saturday. "After the PT test, if they pass them, I'll go take the written test at the department," the chief said.
The chief outlined the next steps: written testing at the department, a formal interview process involving Captain Forbes and a panel that will include officers (so recruits learn the anchor/score system), a graded scoring scale to create an objective ranking, and a final meeting between candidates and the chief before a hiring vote. He said the department is trying to complete steps efficiently but carefully.
The chief also described changes to the interview process this year to include officers in interviews so they can learn how the system works. "They're having a formal interview with captain Forbes, and... I'm letting officers sit in on the interview so they can learn how the interview is going," he said.
The department also promoted within its reserve program; Chad Olin was promoted to reserve sergeant and will run the reserve program.
Commissioners did not vote on hiring during the meeting; the commission discussed the process and next steps for candidate evaluation.
