Commission approves donation of 62.44 acres to Air Force for Vance AFB use, passes emergency clause

The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an emergency resolution authorizing the city to offer 62.44 acres of city-owned property south of Vance Air Force Base to the Secretary of the Air Force and directed the mayor to execute documents necessary to complete the offer.
City Attorney Melissa Blanton described the property as a roughly 62.44-acre parcel located south of the base and said the packet included environmental reviews and surveys necessary to complete the federal proffer. "We are asking for it to be passed with an emergency so that it can take effect immediately so that the deed and all other documents that have been prepared for this gift can be presented all at once," Blanton said.
The commission first approved the resolution and then approved the emergency clause; both votes were 7-0. Staff said the action is part of an ongoing partnership with Vance Air Force Base.
