Superintendent highlights principals, strategic-plan recruitment, grants and Sunrise Lake usage

Superintendent Dr. Kaye highlighted National Principals Month, invited board participation in the district strategic-plan refresh and provided updates on the ABC 25 Foundation and Sunrise Lake outdoor education at the Oct. 21 board meeting.
Dr. Kaye named principals and assistant principals at each school and said the district will conduct a road trip to deliver recognition items through the month. She asked board members and community members to apply for the strategic-plan refresh team and asked trustees to complete a related survey; staff set a closing date for nominations at the end of the week and planned to notify participants the following week.
Dr. Kaye reported the ABC 25 Foundation had received 61 completed grant applications that were entering a review process and promoted two upcoming foundation events: an anti-bullying program scheduled for Jan. 19 (anticipated as a nonattendance day with presentations by school level) and an ABC 25 Topgolf fundraiser on March 15.
Liz (NSSEO representative) updated the board on Sunrise Lake Outdoor Education Center usage: as a member district, the district participates in programs that host more than 10,000 students annually, with over 1,026 groups and 448 programs. She invited board members to arrange tours and promoted a Nov. 1 Harvest Fest at the site.
PTA report items were shared via Dr. Kaye on behalf of PTA President Erin Likomski, who attended the Northwest Cook Region PTA awards and reported multiple Arlington Heights local units received awards for membership growth and inclusive programming. Erin was also elected to the Northwest Cook Nominating Committee for the year.
In other administrative items, Dr. Kaye said the district had responded to five FOIA requests in the past month within the required timelines and encouraged trustees to complete IASB materials ahead of the November deadlines.
