The change, requested by Police Chief Worth and brought to the board as part of the annual update to the personnel manual, prevents more than one sergeant from being on vacation at the same time without prior approval. Chief Worth said the rule helps control overtime and maintain consistent supervision; trustees confirmed the policy applies to five current sergeants and one acting sergeant, and that the acting sergeant falls under the department’s labor agreement.
Trustee Ersink moved to approve the revision; Trustee Kudo seconded. The board voted in favor with no recorded opposition and the motion carried.
Trustees noted the policy will be communicated to current sergeants and included in new‑hire materials so future applicants understand scheduling rules. The village packet listed no immediate fiscal impact, and staff said the restriction is intended to reduce overtime exposure rather than create new costs.
