Brett Rowe, the district’s search consultant, presented results of community and staff surveys the board will use in its superintendent search.
Rowe said the 2025 community survey captured 238 responses (down from 364 in 2024). Of those respondents, about 85% identified as parents or caregivers, 17% as employees and roughly 18% as other residents; fewer than 1% identified as students. Staff responses numbered 68 in 2025 (92 in 2024).
Survey takers listed top professional qualities they want in a superintendent: experience with budgeting and school finance; successful experience managing staff; skills in community relationships; competence in conflict management; accountability; curriculum supervision; commitment to closing achievement gaps; and strong communication. On personal qualities, the top five priorities were judgment and common sense, integrity, transparency, respect for all stakeholders and a student‑first philosophy.
Rowe said common community comments included requests for transparency, support for teachers and staff retention, willingness to resist political pressure, and experience managing growth and levies.
Trustees moved to schedule a public work session to finalize the application/essay questions and timeline. A motion to hold a work session on November 6 at 6:00 p.m. was made and seconded; staff and the consultant agreed to prepare application materials and to publish the application opening on November 17 if the board finalizes essay questions in the first week of November. Rowe also noted he will be on leave in February and that ISBA consultant Jason Lloyd will assist during that period.
Rowe urged the board to use survey responses to shape interview and application questions so the candidate pool and interviews reflect community priorities.
