The Grand Rapids Public School District Board of Education approved a package of routine business items at its meeting, including agenda and minutes approvals, consent agenda items, closure of an OPEB debt service fund and transfers, acceptance of donations, and several administrative designations.
Agenda and minutes: The board approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of the September meeting by voice vote.
OPEB debt service fund transfer: District business staff said the district paid off the remainder of its OPEB bonds in February and the district has a balance of about $1,400,000 in the OPEB debt service fund. Staff requested approval to transfer remaining assets — cash and delinquent-taxes receivables — to the district’s remaining debt service fund and to close the OPEB debt service fund. Business manager Cara said the funds cannot be moved to the general fund and will be used to calculate allowable tax levies for existing debt. The board approved the transfer and closure by motion.
Donations and gifts: The board approved a resolution accepting donations for July, August and September 2025. The amounts reported in the meeting packet were: July 2025 — $25,735; August 2025 — $46,310; September 2025 — $5,227.40. Board members noted that July 2024 included a much larger donation ($250,000) tied to a community project and explained the difference.
Administrative designations and scheduling: The board designated Superintendent Matt Gross as the Local Education Agency representative authorized to file applications for federal and state funds for the 2025–26 school year. The board also scheduled its 2026 organizational meeting for Jan. 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
Other routine approvals: The board approved the consent agenda and other routine items listed on the meeting agenda by voice vote.
