Urban Forestry Commission nominates Paige Belfry for downtown revitalization advisory committee

The Sandpoint Urban Forestry Commission on Oct. 23 nominated Commissioner Paige Belfry to serve as the commission’s representative to the Downtown Revitalization Phase 3 Citizen Advisory Committee.
City staff presented the Phase 3 design effort — described as the continuation of earlier streetscape work on Cedar Street (Phase 1) and First Avenue (Phase 2) — and said the advisory committee will include representatives from several commissions, downtown business interests and delivery firms, along with staff and members of the project design team. Eric Busch, city staff liaison and the project manager, said the advisory group is expected to meet about five times over roughly the next year to review design work and keep affected committees informed.
Paige Belfry accepted the nomination during the meeting. “I will, yes, accept the nomination,” Belfry said. Commissioners then moved and approved the nomination by voice vote. Busch said nominations from each commission are forwarded to the mayor, who makes final appointments.
The advisory committee is intended to advise on streetscape elements including sidewalks, pedestrian areas, street reconstruction and subsurface utility work for Church Street south along First Avenue and, budget permitting, Pine and Lake streets. Busch said committee meetings will likely be held downtown or in city hall and that he will attend periodically for specific items.
Belfry’s nomination came during a meeting conducted without a chair or vice chair present; commissioners present nominated an acting presiding officer for the remainder of the session before handling the advisory-committee nomination. The commission also discussed the schedule and outreach for the advisory committee and noted two open houses will likely be held during the design process to gather public input.
Administrative next steps: the commission’s nominee will report back to the commission after advisory-committee meetings, and the mayor’s office will complete the formal appointment process.
