City staff reported to the Sierra Vista City Council on Tuesday that August sales tax receipts were nearly 3% higher than the same period last year and are running above budget, and they provided a series of operational procurement updates.
In the city manager's report staff said proposals for an employee health benefits consultant had been received and were under review. Staff also said the procurement for a commercially uninterrupted power system (UPS) backup was being rebid after initial bids exceeded budget; the city said it is rescoping the project and will readvertise it.
Staff cautioned that recent federal or military pay disruptions could reduce spending in the community if civilian employees are not paid on schedule. Council asked no substantive questions about the benefits review or the rebid at Tuesday's meeting. No contract awards were made.
The sales-tax uptick was presented as a positive indicator for August despite the city's loss of residential rental property tax revenue; staff did not provide a multi-year trend analysis or specific dollar totals in the verbal report. Staff said it would continue to monitor revenues and report back.
