A Lenawee County Probate & Juvenile Court judge approved annual accountings for Lois Jones and urged the guardian to arrange periodic in-person or video checks to confirm the ward’s condition.
Jeanette Benedict appeared by phone and testified that she authored three accountings filed for Lois Jones. The judge asked whether Benedict was able to visit Jones in person; Benedict said she had suffered two strokes and no longer drives but maintains phone contact with caregivers and would try to arrange video visits and in-person checks through local contacts.
The judge reminded Benedict that, under the governing statutes, a guardian is generally required to visit the ward at least quarterly and pressed Benedict to seek someone in Michigan who could visit in person if she could not. Benedict said she would speak with Jonathan Richardson and others who have been cooperative.
The court found the accountings to be accurate and complete and approved them. The judge said the guardian should make reasonable efforts to verify Jones’s condition visually and asked parties to raise any further concerns now or in writing before the court.
