A council member presented preliminary renovation plans for the city auditorium and said architects provided drawings and cost estimates; the steering committee plans an open house on Nov. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. to display plans and gather public input.
The speaker said the steering committee recently received a presentation from Olson and Associates and now has conceptual plans. Early cost estimates discussed with staff ranged broadly from $3 million to $5 million. The council member said the project team is considering a phased approach to divide work into multiple phases so that fundraising and grant-seeking can proceed incrementally and the community can weigh in on scope for each phase.
The council member said organizers expect to rely heavily on fundraised dollars and grants and that the city will seek volunteers to chair or co-chair a fundraising committee. A Nov. 19 open house will be an informal drop-in event with display boards, drawings and staff or consultants available to answer questions; no formal presentation is planned. The speaker said it was not yet determined whether the auditorium could remain in partial use during construction.
The council asked staff to continue cost analysis and to provide additional details for future meetings. Olson and Associates was named as the design consultant; city staff identified as Chris met with the architect earlier to review costs.
