Council lacks quorum; approves payment of claims and defers remaining business

An unidentified council member moved and another seconded; the roll call recorded affirmative votes from Tiller, Warren, Peter, Smith and Matt Lifford. The presiding council member noted that the mayor must vote on that item.
The presiding council member said the body "cannot take any any more action for this evening" because it did not have a quorum and that by statute the remaining items will be carried over to the next meeting. Council members said two were excused for illness and others had notified they could not attend. The presiding member apologized to members of the public who had attended expecting full action.
The council did not take up other agenda items, and no further votes or formal actions were recorded at the meeting. The council indicated the next regularly scheduled meeting will consider the eight remaining action items that had been on this agenda.
