New website launches to help Whatcom County families find drop-in childcare

Bachman described the site as a way for caregivers to “fill out the paperwork” online so staff can match them with nearby providers for needs such as doctor appointments or job interviews. “If you have a child who is 0 to 6 years old and you need temporary care, drop in care, you have a doctor's appointment, you have a job interview, you just go to childcarespaces.com,” Bachman said.
Bachman said the service can be free for families who qualify for subsidies, citing WIC, SNAP and Working Connections Child Care as examples. “It is free if you qualify for any subsidies. So that'd be WIC, SNAP, or working connection childcare,” he said. He added that families who do not qualify for subsidies would private pay, with rates “somewhere between 6 and $10 an hour.”
The announcement did not specify who operates or funds childcarespaces.com, how many providers participate, or whether the site is affiliated with any government agency. Bachman encouraged interested families to visit the site to begin the intake process and find a location close to work or home.
