Hamilton County approves consent agenda including $4.05 million in JFS contracts and economic revitalization grants

The Board of Hamilton County Commissioners on Oct. 9 approved consent agenda items 2 through 16, a package that included multiple social service contracts, grants and local economic development awards.
Administration said the Job and Family Services (JFS) items totaled about $4,050,000 and included single-source or renewal agreements for residential and group-home treatment services with Belmont Pines Hospital ($182,923), Fox Run Center ($503,000), A Place of Hope LLC ($183,000), and a $1,580,000 agreement with the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati for consulting related to the "kids in school rule" program. A renewal memorandum with juvenile court for dependency-docket work was listed at $1,600,000.
Other consent items included a reallocation of $363,139 in ARPA funds to the Free Store Food Bank (estimated to fund roughly 1,100,000 meals), a waste-reduction grant of $12,827 to Cincinnati Urban Promise for composting equipment, and a budget adjustment for a federal grant to support the coroner's office and the crime lab for DNA processing.
Administration also presented four economic impact (revitalization) grants: the village of Lachlan (streetscaping) for $140,595; the village of Lachlan (historic building acquisition) for $290,000; the city of Mount Healthy for $250,000 for a façade-improvement program; and the village of North Bend for $290,000 for the William Henry Harrison Riverfront Park trailhead, road improvements and park amenities. Mayor Doug Sammons of North Bend described the project as adding parking, a trailhead and widening a narrow road into the park; he said the village previously acquired the property with earlier county funding and a $500,000 Ohio capital grant.
Commissioners praised allocations to homelessness prevention, rental assistance and senior services, and approved the consent agenda by unanimous vote of the three members present.
The administration said the economic impact grants are competitive and intended to support local jurisdictions' defined redevelopment priorities. Several items were described as reallocations of previously awarded funds or renewals of existing contracts. The consent package also included reappointment of Chris Hable to the Earthworks Appeal Board and a small credit card charge for Veterans Services.
