Lucas Park programming grows; steering committee will shape 2026 redevelopment

Urban Tilth representatives told the Richmond TCC steering committee on Oct. 1 that Lucas Park (formerly Tenth Street Park) has hosted weekly programming—bike rides and repair clinics, youth soccer and baseball, Zumba and community cleanups—and that the group is collecting resident surveys to guide a master plan and redevelopment slated for 2026.
Steph Solis and Rashida Foster, Lucas Park community engagement co‑managers, said partners including Rich City Rides, Moving Forward, San Pablo Baseball Association, Richmond United and East Shore Alliance have run free programming since April. Foster said staff have collected about 65 community surveys and seek roughly 150 responses by November to shape the park master plan design. Programming runs through October with a wrap‑up “Lucas Park picnic and play” planned for Nov. 8; stipends will be available for steering‑committee members who live near the park.
Urban Tilth clarified funding for the redevelopment is coming from Urban Tilth (not the TCC grant), and organizers encouraged residents of the Lucas Park area to apply for the steering committee. Flyers, event calendars and volunteering information are available at the meeting materials table and via the project contact addresses presented at the meeting.
Organizers invited partners to table at the Nov. 8 event and to share outreach materials for youth fellows and other volunteers supporting programming.
