Elkhorn High students launch Educators Rising chapter to recruit future teachers

Elkhorn High School students and their adviser presented to the Elkhorn Area School District board on Oct. 13, 2025 to announce the launch of an Educators Rising chapter at the high school and to describe the club’s early activities and goals.
Stacy Jacobs, the school’s Educators Rising adviser and a child-development teacher, introduced the chapter leadership and described the club as the first full year of activity for the school. “I'm starting my 27th year in education,” Jacobs said, and she told the board the chapter will give students classroom experience, leadership opportunities and pathways toward careers in teaching.
The club’s president, Natasha Edmonson, said the chapter has 26 members and has held three meetings since the school year began. “Educators Rising is a national career and technical student organization designed for students who are interested in exploring education as a career,” Edmonson said; she told the board the program offers competitions, lesson-planning events, teaching demonstrations, scholarships and networking with mentor teachers. Edmonson described attending a state conference at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point this summer and said the chapter hopes to send competitors to the national conference in Portland, Oregon, if they secure additional funds.
Jacobs and the students said the chapter has begun fundraising and has earned seed funds: an early donation from a district donor helped launch the club, the chapter received a $500 scholarship from the state chapter, and the students reported about $1,000 in fundraising proceeds and planned concession-stand work at upcoming football games. The leadership board said state-level competitions are scheduled in March, with the national conference in June as a possible next step if the team advances and funds are available.
The students also described community activities they have performed, including writing thank-you cards for district IT staff on National IT Professionals Day and for the school board on National School Board Week.
Ending: Board members congratulated the students and asked them to return in the spring with competition results and updates on travel plans if they attend state or national events.
